A Backyard Moment 1

Nice photos of birds are easy to find these days...especially online. People are getting good shots with their digital cameras. This is one I took.

As you likely recognize, the larger bird is a female cardinal.
A common visitor to bird feeders, this one is special because she has come to see us. Also, she's an important guest if only because of her specie name...Cardinalis, a Latin word meaning “important”. Her mate was close by when this photo was taken.

Attracting birds to our property is one of the things Linda and I most enjoy. We are not as experienced in bird watching as many are, including King P-doctor-G and Queen Greenthumb.
We have received some wonderful bird photos taken by Queen G. and will be sharing them with you soon.
King Scoutmaster has been successful in coaxing a wide variety of birds to the backyard of their new home in Pennsylvania.

I feel that observing bird life is especially pleasing to humans because their sitings and visitations expose Nature's amazing diversity and otherwise concealed vibrancy. There's also that freedom thing. Rachel Carson had stuff to say about birds. I think her book "Silent Spring" would be appropriate for some discussion here.

The flower appearing at the lower left of this photo is a gerbera daisy, planted in honor of Sir Musicmaker. It is container planted because we are going to try to bring it into a place where it is protected from severe winter temperatures each year. Our previous attempts to plant "permanently" have failed, forcing us to purchase a new one each year.
